The ideal candidate should have experience as a caregiver, strong communication skills, problem solving ability, and organizational skills. The Caregiver will provide direct personal care and supervision to the residents at the facility and promote resident well-being and satisfaction through support with activities of daily living. Responsibilities will include light housework, meal preparation, passing medications, companionship, and assistance with personal care services such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
Communication with other staff and supervisor to ensure resident needs are met is critical.
Job Requirements:
- A kind and sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly and the ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job, both mentally and physically.
- Care and compassion for residents.
- Flexibility in responding to resident needs and emergencies.
- Understanding and following facility protocols as required by the State of California. Pass FBI & DOJ background check, negative TB test, and physician’s clearance.
- Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English as needed for the job. Be 21 years of age or older.
- CPR certified.
- Undergo regular on-the-job training.
- Communicating effectively with the residents, family members, health professionals, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with activities of daily living, including assisting residents with taking their centrally stored medications, following facility protocol and licensing regulations and guidelines for both resident and employee safety.
- Follow safety guidelines in the facility, including proper lifting technique and universal precautions when providing care to the residents.
- Follow the schedule of duties of the Caregiver as well as the individual plan of care for each resident, including scheduled activities.
- Function as a team, assisting coworkers as the need arises.
- Monitor resident activity, food intake, functional status, psychosocial status, taking action as required to promote resident well-being.
- Report status change immediately to the supervisor.
- Act immediately on any resident crisis, following protocol and basic first aid training.
- In the event all assigned duties cannot be completed, ask for assistance and report to supervisor. Prepare and serve meals for residents.
- Promote open communication between health care professionals, families, residents, and staff. Do all laundry and housekeeping services for the residents and facility as required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrator.
